Chapter 222 Don’t Let your Self Doubt Hold you Back. Make that leap.
The last time I was laid off years ago, I was at first nervous because I was on the road that is not the “beaten” path. But that is just another fear that exists only in your mind. I contend that in the future, “small is better” and once you establish yourself, you will feel more equanimity and peace because you know that your efforts will have a direct impact on others. Going into corporate meetings all day for a company whose product you do not care about will eventually make you sick, physically and mentally.
Think of what you would do if money was no object. That is the secret to finding your passion and deriving income and something useful for others. There are seven and a half BILLION people living on earth, and there are endless ways to establish an income where you can live. Whatever you enjoy doing, you can find customers in the vast ocean of living beings that will allow you to earn money enough for the three keys that are three sticks on a stool (food, clothing, shelter). Even if you must live more modestly than your old job, your 9 to 5 slavery will be a thing of the past. However, the chances are great that if you work within your passion, you can generate an income that far exceeds your previous “job” income.
With your “job” you will only do what you have to do, and nothing more because your work is not your own. As we discussed, you will sooner or later feel yourself alienated from your work, and your scars will deepen. With every “job” that you end up doing, if it is not within your control, you will grow deeper into an abyss of depression. Trust me, every single person reading this book can replace the income from their “job” and have many more hours free to engage in activities that enrich your soul. You just have to unlearn Society’s admonition that you stay stranded on a “job”.
It is not unlike your being stranded on an island, and seeing entrepreneurs fly by with a passion should stir you into taking action. For starters, being your own boss allows you tremendous flexibility. In your corporate job, any “deviation” will be considered abnormal and will likely be PUNISHED for it. Try to engage in a different way to do your job, and you will quickly be called into the Human Resources office and be ready for security to empty your cubicle and be guided out the door. If you decide to make a change in your work, you don’t have to bring your idea to a committee, you can make the changes instantly, which will add to your own happiness.
