Chapter 204 Peacefully Ignore Political Figures Vote Independent and Care Not Who is in the White House
As the battle to the November Presidential Elections speed up, I am personally troubled as to knowing who would run the country better, Obama or Romney. Democrat vs. Republican. As I argued many chapters before, the President has very little power overall. Yes, he can grant presidential pardons, appoint Supreme Court Judges and Cabinet members, and issue some specific orders like “Killing Osama bin Laden”. But to think we can magically create jobs, improve education, and restore American standing in the world is very limited. He is mainly a figurehead and cheerleader for the U.S., not much more.
People love heroes, especially here in America. But as far as the presidency goes, well, not much really can heroes do anything for us in any measured capacity. Knowing this, reflecting on this, will diminish expectations and diminish your being unsettled in your mind. The President usually suggests new legislation and his the budget with his Cabinet members, but it is the job of Congress to create the laws and pass the budget. They are the ones who Legislate. Then it is through the Executive powers that signs the laws passed by Congress. But he can’t arbitrarily create laws. But he does present the image of the country to the world. It is his ability to relate to other world leaders that helps the US globally. But he is like “Wizard of Oz” figurehead, not some Norse god who can save you or the country personally.
Obama is trying his best, but very little has changed in the job creation front, increasing the GDP of the US, and in the housing prices improvement area. But Mitt Romney, a centi-millionnaire, seems to have few answers of his own. His main campaign slogan appears to be,
“I am good at making money for myself, so please make me your president.”
That does not induce me with any confidence that much will change. And just KNOWING this and accepting the facts restores a calmness in my mind. I am not unsettled hoping for a politician to save me. I read within the past week:
“Sarah Palin said, ‘Obama lies, freedom dies.’ And then she and husband Todd got on their snowmobile, road across the Alaskan tundra, shooting anything they want with a machine gun.’ But freedom is dead.” –Bill Maher
“President Obama admitted this week that a former girlfriend that he wrote about in his autobiography was made up and not a real person . . . So Obama had an imaginary girlfriend. Big deal! He had an imaginary economic plan. It’s all the same.” –Jay Leno
“Conservatives are now criticizing President Obama because as a child in Indonesia he sometimes ate dog meat. But on the plus side, Obama is now polling very well among cats.” –Conan O’Brien
“President Obama, in his memoir, talked about his childhood in Indonesia living with his stepfather. He said when he was 8 years old, his stepfather introduced him to a number of unusual meats, including dog. Our president ate dog. Not only that, according to the book, he also ate snake. And his mother was looking for tiger. He was eating through Noah’s Ark.” –Jimmy Kimmel
“President Obama released his tax returns. It turns out he made $900,000 less in 2011 then he did in 2010. You know what that means? Even Obama is doing worse under President Obama.” –Jay Leno
“President Obama said regarding the economy, ‘The sky is not falling.’ The poll numbers are falling, the market is falling, support for the war in Libya is falling, Anthony Weiner’s pants are falling, but the sky is fine.” –Jay Leno
“I secretly want Romney to win because, look, I’m a comedian. Mitt Romney is an ultra-Caucasian Mormon zillionaire who uses his dog as a hood ornament. For me not to secretly want him as President, it’s like Halliburton secretly not wanting a war.” –Bill Maher
Just this morning, July 8, 2012, I was reading about the heat that Mitt Romney had several off shore business accounts where he was stashing his cash. The very fact that Romney had offshore tax shelters in Switzerland and Bermuda is an obvious fact that he is avoiding paying taxes on his income. There is no other reason he would have them.
Come November, we will elect another American “King”, but America apopears to be a declining Empire, just like the Roman Empire a couple of thousand years ago. Our “Coliseum” are the “reality TV shows” we spoke of several chapters before. Mankind, by his very nature, is sort of condemned to repeat history over and over again (like in the Myth of Sisyphus).
Regardless of how honorable and sweet smelling the ideals that a political party espouses, the rich and powerful always find a way to manipulate the masses to work and die for the VERY ideals the rich and powerful make impossible for the masses to have. It is an axiom that the rich and powerful cannot allow the masses to gain power because that would diminish their own absolute power and position. The gaining gap between the ultra powerful and the completely weak is gathering steam, and possibly revolution will erupt, as it has in Europe for the same reasons. I personally surrender to this truth, and hence I do not suffer as a result.
