You will fall below your thoughts and calmness. Television and other main stream media thus hypnotizes you so in such a subtle way. Then, like alcohol, it becomes an addiction. Once you are hooked, like any other addiction, you lose all control and you enter meaninglessness and unawareness.
So yearn to become conscious of what you are taking in. Many people give a lot of thought to what they are eating for lunch, and what they are packing for their kids for their lunch, or their spouse, but yet give no thought to what they are taking in mentally from the stimuli around them. Society’s main stream media that makes you fall below your thoughts is something you must learn to avoid.
There is a saying that “Ego is burned up in the fire of misery.” And this is true. It must be true. You will have your turn at misery and this is your chance the universe gives you to rise up and destroy your ego. Or if you don’t rise to the challenge, not only will your ego not be burned up, but your very soul will burn and turn into ashes. You could react to the Universe and God giving you misery and turn it into good, like becoming compassionate and helping others, or you could wallow in your misery, turn to worse addictions like alcohol and drugs, and really finish yourself off…not to mention those close to you like family and friends.
Again, I say this over and over, endeavor to swim deep into the sea with your mind, where the waves and winds won’t push you around and around. In the deep waters, there is no disturbances, it is quiet down below. There is another saying that says, “Stillness is the language God speaks, everything else is a bad translation”.
When you are still, when you do healthy activities like yoga, meditation, prayer (like praying the Rosary beads), Tai Chi, focus exercises, and physical exercise like swimming, you increase your “awareness” and this takes over your typical “50,000 thoughts a day superhighway of mindlessness” that cycles itself over and over. When you invite God and presence into your life, you invite “spaces” around your problems and stray away from useless thinking.
