“How far you go in life depends on how tender you were with the young, how compassionate you were with the aged, and sympathetic you were with the striving, and tolerant you were with the weak and the strong…because someday in your life, you would have been all of these.” George Washington Carver
This quote wisely illustrates how important it is to be compassionate with everyone. Don’t ignore the effect of each wise and virtuous action. It will all come back to you and each and every action has infinite consequences. If ill fortune comes your way, be aware that there is that silver lining in each and every difficult predicament. You just have to be receptive to it.
For most of the world, the word broken means being useless, which is a fiction that society tries to convince you that you are. In the upside-down world of God’s kingdom or The Universe, being “broken” can mean being ready to be used. Consider the analogy over being broken in pieces like a mosaic. It is the broken pieces, if properly connected, which gives rise to the artist a piece of art that begins with those broken pieces and then turns into something beautiful. We are all God’s mosaic, and our brokenness can be crafted through wise and skillful hands.
It is also greed, and not just attachments, that foil us. Being greedy means never being satisfied with what is…It is like a hungry ghost that you are being. When you are greedy, you cannot think of others and you engage in actions that will likely ruin you financially and bring terrible suffering onto your family. Consider if you run a successful business, but still are not satisfied. So you continue to strive for more. Suppose then you open a second business and then a third before you are ready and before you did the proper research (and had the proper funds) for the expansion.
You may run into a cash crunch that prevents the payment of the employees. Now you face the risk of ruin and then you also are faced with liabilities like paying employees that have negative consequences for them as well. Being greedy is like a camel or other animal that is constantly thirsty, never at peace and never at ease in his current situation and with what he has.
