Beauty often hides in the clothes of ugliness and vice versa. Ironically, the most qualified and calm never end up as political power elite. If instance, if you need to be a president, you will have to have a big ego and the accompanied energy. You will not seek after power if you have no ego and a comfortable mind.
Don’t seek after power. Power is unnecessary to do good things for others. In fact, search after ordinariness. Everyone, really everyone in society is after becoming something extraordinary, it is in search of their ego. They want to accomplish something special, unique, and incomparable. But you have to realize that all of this clutching going on, the grasping, is a paradox and a contradiction. The more everyone tries to become exceptional, the more ordinary you become, like trays at the local McDonald’s. After awhile, everyone appears the same. Consider going to Las Vegas or Los Angeles. Everyone is identical. The women especially all dye their hair blond, have the same tattoos, the same earrings.
If you seek to be ordinary, it is actually extraordinary.
This is because it is very rare to find someone who wants to be ordinary. When they do, it is rather…extraordinary. In fact, know that everyone is unique, if you can stop with the constant running after empty goals, you can step off the hamster wheel and really find yourself. Then you will realize how unique you really are. No two pebbles or leaves on a tree are the same. Stop needing to be “somebody”. Strive just to be yourself. If you really just be yourself, suddenly you become very unique. You are incomparable. That is why those who strive and search and clutch, will fail. Those who don’t, suddenly attain all they need.
Trying to be a man of power or status will doom you. There will always be someone of a higher status. You cannot breathe, you cannot slow down, you have to wear yourself down…too get nowhere. You are in such a rush, you will miss your life utterly. There is a famous story of a man who needed to light his fireplace, and needed a source of fire to ignite the wood. So he used a candle and searched all night for a fire to light his fireplace!
Realize that life, the universe, has no obligation to fit with your conclusions. This is why enduring life is so difficult to an educated person. He has been taught all the ready pre-packaged answers. He is told what to think, how to think, and forced to run, run, run. And then when he is so tired, he is asked to run some more. He becomes crammed and trapped. Life asks different questions than the answers you are told.
