We could use a medical analogy here. The individuals are like the white blood cells for instance. They are responsible for killing off infections and the like. The white blood cells must die as a result, but the entire whole of the body does not care about the individual cells, as long as the whole body is preserved and can grow. What about if you are a skin cell? Your responsibility is to protect the body from infection and to keep the heat inside (core body temperature). You will eventually flake off and die and another skin cell will replace you underneath. Does the whole of the body care that you are an expendable resource?
Just as in the medical analogy, the body doesn’t care about you. Society does not really care about you. Society doesn’t even really even notice until you start complaining loudly. Just like an old skin cell, you are forgotten once you have done your share taking care of society’s needs. Don’t be a slave to Society’s using you.
Always keep in mind as we discuss the difficulties of a modern man to be happy is because society is making him unhappy. Consider the fate of an innocent child not yet overwhelmed by society. The innocent child, born happy and innocent and enthusiastic, is taught from birth. We are corrupting our children, it is sort of deceptive and ugly, a violence against humanity. At the very least, it is child abuse.
So spread joy around whenever you can, it is infectious. An old Indian saying goes: “God is asleep. But when two peoples’ eyes meet and they smile at each other, then God awakens”. God exists always but particularly when there is a union of souls. The smiles are not isolated. They were echoed across everyone around them and act as a bridge of happiness across all people.
