Society tells you from the beginning how to think and how to be. It makes you lose contact with yourself and who you are really meant to be. You may feel a spiritual center…that which should not change with your surroundings. But society will step in and tell you basically where it wants you. If you want to be an architect but do not excel to society’s measure on the subject, you won’t be an architect. Say you are a skilled master politician, then Society will turn you into one. We need only look at the example of Adolf Hitler. He wanted to go to become an architect but was not accepted to the schools, so he turned into someone who hurt a lot of people.
Don’t listen to society (which may manifest as the people around you). Society does not and will not allow you to have the freedom to be who you really want to be. It will put outward images into your mind and put foreign bodies into your soul. When you wish to eat a yummy breakfast cereal, will you put pieces of plastic in it? That is what society is. Instead of allowing you to eat your cereal and putting in tiny nuts grapes, and so on, it will place pieces of manure and foreign stuff like wood chips that have no place in your own cereal.
If you listen to society, then you may sell yourself on something that you are not. For example, if you are In other words, you have to play a game of pretend. Remember when you go out Trick or Treating in Halloween? You have to pretend that you are something you are not for a short period of time. That is easy to do, but if you pretend, you are never satisfied and at one with yourself. It is fun for maybe a couple of hours, but what if you had to put on a stupid costume for good? That is what society will do to you.
The whole of nature is pleased and at one with itself. A bird is a bird, and fish is a fish. But what if a bird suddenly tried to become a fish? Then, misery would result. Just imagine how impossibly stupid that is. But Society does that with a passion… to make people not be comfortable in their own skin. You can keep thinking about these analogies. Suppose a tree began feeling, “Dammit! Why can’t I move around? Why am I stuck in the ground with these god forsaken roots? I want to move over to the ocean to see the sunset. I can’t see the sunset with these stupid taller trees blocking my view.” How miserable the tree would be!
In your schooling, you are taught so many things… most of them useless and ridiculous, but you are never taught in a class how to just be… Just how to be yourself. This is the worst thing that society does, because it makes everyone feel like they need to be someone or somewhere else. And to be what you don’t wish to become, to work in a job that you absolutely hate, to marry someone who you don’t wish to remain with, to think something you are not… these are the root cause of all your own miseries. The bitter irony is that the same society that makes everyone so miserable is the same society that suddenly is surprised and tells you not to show your own misery on the outside.
Society first programs you to become unhappy, and then when you show your unhappiness, it is upset with you and tells you to keep quiet. Society does not like dissidents. It wants and always wanted, conformists. Society incredulously tells you that you should be happy… when you are clearly not. The society then tells you not to show your miserable self to the outside world. They want you to come out and smile and laugh and show happiness. This is what they deem as being polite, having good manners, showing proper etiquette.
